We are so happy to have the scientists from the Australian Synchrotron join us again at this year’s AstroLight festival. Dr Helen Brand will be talking about her research some more and this year we will also have a Synchrotron stall in the Scienceworks Lower Ground Floor. Be sure to come down and visit and learn more about what science goes on in one of Australia’s biggest labs.
The Australian Synchrotron is a world-class particle accelerator technology which produce a powerful source of light – X-rays and infrared radiation – a million times brighter than the sun. The facility has nine different experimental stations, or beamlines, which harness that light so researchers can see the fundamental structure and composition of materials, on scales ranging from the atomic to the macroscopic – with a level of detail, speed and accuracy not possible in conventional laboratories.
Located out at Monash University, Scientists from all over Melbourne and Australia conduct experiments with the Australian Synchrotron. Find out more when you visit the Australian Synchrotron table and don’t miss out on Helen’s talk.
