The latest Melbourne Planetarium show is called Capturing the Cosmos. It is the product of a collaboration between the Melbourne Planetarium production team, lead by Dr Tanya Hill, and our major sponsors, CAASTRO.
Capturing the Cosmos
All-sky astronomy is a new way of looking at the sky to better understand our Universe.
Launched earlier this year simultaneously across the country (the first planetarium show ever to do so), Capturing the Cosmos showcases examples of the amazing Astronomy currently happening in Australia. SkyMapper in NSW and the Murchison Wide-field Array (MWA) in WA, who have been designed to look across and image large sections of the sky, are the stars of this show. These two new and innovative telescopes are finding things we have never seen before and are helping us to understand the Universe even better than before.
Award-winning actor Geoffrey Rush is the narrator and the music score was written and performed by the Bratislava Orchestra. Head to the University of Melbourne’s Pursuit and watch some sneak previews of the show.
