So one of the big hits last year was the Laser Maze hosted by the Optical Society of Australia Student Chapter in the Scienceworks Pumping Station. We are so excited to say it is back again this year, so start limbering up and channeling your best Catherine Zeita-Jones moves to dodge the laser beams and make it to the other side!
Crazy Laser Maze
Lasers are part of technology that we use everyday, but unfortunately they are often hidden away in ‘black boxes’, or hopelessly misrepresented in Hollywood movies. We will be celebrating the reality of the laser by bringing it out into the open with a laser maze! Navigate through the beams like a jewel thief to get to the ‘treasure’ on the other side, but if you cross through a beam…the jig is up.
The University of Melbourne student chapter of The Optical Society is a group of postgraduate students who are passionate about the optical sciences. While members work in a broad array of fields, from hands on lab work with lasers, to theoretical calculations on the properties of subatomic particles, all share in a love of scientific research. The chapter exists to help facilitate collaboration across related fields, to engage with wider community about optical research, and of course it is a lot of fun for the members!
The Optical Society (OSA) is the leading professional association in optics and photonics, home to accomplished science, engineering, and business leaders from all over the world. Through world-renowned publications, meetings, and membership programs, OSA provides quality information and inspiring interactions that power achievements in the science of light.
Of course on your way to the maze, please stop and look at all the amazing light and astronomy activities we have for you in the Pumping Station, you never know what you might see or learn or do…
